Spring fishing is heating up!
The water temps have started to creep up into the 60s recently and the fish are starting to break away from their schools and spread out. We have been having good luck with redfish, sheepshead, black drum, and sea trout using a variety of different baits. What we have been targeting on our trips largely depends on whether the tide is high or low, incoming or outgoing.
We have been using live shrimp, fiddler crabs, mullet and mud minnows. The bait has showed up in big ways since the water has been heating up. We suspect the bite to continue getting better as the old saying goes once the water hits 65 everything comes alive. Some sharks are starting to show up as well and the spring bull redfish bite should be firing up any day now. Expect to hit a number of different spots on your fishing charter while targeting several different species.
The shrimp are in the deep holes and they are still sitting over 35 ft deep and we should see them move a little shallower soon making them easier to catch for bait. Live shrimp is one of our favorites to have on the boat as we fish Hilton Head. I always tell clients everything will eat a live shrimp. The mullet have shown up big in recent weeks as the water in the creeks especially have gotten more warm.
Spring break time is a busy time and trips book up quickly! If you are thinking of going book sooner than later to save a spot!
